Sewing Instruction

Step 1

This block is different from the normal. You will need to arrange all of your cut triangles as per the diagram below.

  • Join the small blocks up into line as follows:

    Line 1 - Unit 1 + Unit 2 + Unit 1 – press seams to right

    Line 2 – Unit 2 + Unit 3 + Unit 2- press seams to left

    Line 3 – Unit 1 + Unit 2 + Unit 1 – Press seams to right

  • Make sure you iron your seams on each row in the opposite direction to the row before.

Example: Iron Row 1 and 3 seams to the right and row 2 seams to the left. This will help lock the seams together to get good corners and points.

  • Sew these 3 lines together to form your Card Trick block, matching up seams to get good crisp corners and points.

Step 7

Now you have to quilt your block. I use Monopoly thread in both top of machine and bobbin. This gives you a lot of room for errors, as it is not as noticeable then if you used a coloured thread.

Sandwich your top together with wadding and backing. The wadding and backing should be at least 2-3” bigger than your block.

I have quilted my block with straight lines and cross hatching – check the photo below for quilting grid lines that I used for this particular block.

Step 2

As you sew units together place them back in their original place, so as not to get confused.

When you are sewing together Unit 2 - join A + B1 together – then Join B to C2, press seam then sew to B1

Step 3

To make Unit 3, join Unit 1 to 2, and then 3 to 4.Press seams and join the 2 sections together.

Lay all of your small blocks out into the same design as the colour photo above.
